How were the waters of the Jordan stood till the children of Israel pass over it? how God glorified Joshua? what are the different symbols for the pass over? how can we benefit from all of this?

(Then Joshua rose early in the morning: and they set out from Acacia Grove and came to Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they crossed over. So, it was, after three days, that the officers went through the camp.) (JOSHUA 3:1–2)
Hence, the children of Israel crossed over from Acacia Grove denoting to the place in which they were damned and fell in sin to Jordan that denotes to the promised land through the baptism in Jordan.
And the three days are referring to the resurrection of the Christ in the third day. Since, there’s no baptism but for burying three days and rising up by the Christ and with Him.
(And they commanded the people, saying: “When you see the ark of the covenant of the Lord your God, and the priests, the Levites, bearing it, then you shall set out from your place and go after it. Yet there shall be a space between you and it.”) (JOSHUA 3:3,4)
Saint Augustine says: (Jordan meaning their descending so, descend to rise up and do not rise up, so you may not go down.) the way of baptism seems strange for those falling down in pride and cannot go down because, even if the wanted they could not.
It is a new way that cannot be opened except by the one who is humble and is great the incarnated word of God. So, the pass over of the ark of covenant denoting to the opening of the way of baptism by the Christ Himself.
(And Joshua said to the people, “Sanctify yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.”) (JOSHUA 3:5)
So, Joshua asked them to sanctify to see the wonders of God which are a for free presents to whom declare his longing and faith to the work of God through his seriousness and aptitude to accept the gifts and the blessings of God.
(And the Lord said to Joshua, “This day I will begin to exalt you in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with you.) (JOSHUA 3:7)
It should be that man glorify God through worshipping Him and doing good workings and behavior, but here we are seeing God exalts Joshua in the eyes of Israel.
The greatness of Joshua has been connected with the pass over of Jordan in the eyes of Israel in a symbolic image to the announcement of the greatness of Jesus. In that the togetherness between God and Joshua as it is between the God father and Jesus.
(And as those who bore the ark came to the Jordan and the feet of the priests who bore the ark dipped in the edge of the water, that the waters which came down from upstream stood.) (JOSHUA 3:15,16)
(And the children of Israel did so, just as Joshua commanded, and took up twelve stones from the midst of the Jordan, as the Lord had spoken to Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the children of Israel and carried them to the place which they lodged.) (JOSHUA 4:8)
(Then Joshua set up twelve stones in the midst of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests who bore the ark of the covenant stood.) (JOSHUA 4:9)
Caserios of Arles says: (The twelve stones whose taken from the Jordan are referring to the fathers of the Old Testament and the twelve stones when they were set up in the Jordan referring to the twelve disciples in the New Testament.)
The stones taken from the midst of the Jordan refer to the Jews buried in the wilderness but, those whose set up are referring to the nations who were went out to the real promise through baptism.
The stones whose taken and risen up referring to the crucifixion and the resurrection of Jesus Christ and those set up are referring to the continuity of carrying the cross. So, the true believer should experience each day the rising up and sitting in the celestial matters with the Christ while, feeling deeply buried with his savior to experience such rise up.

Crossing the Jordan

(And the people hurried and crossed over.) (JOSHUA 4:10)
John of the Ladder warns us from moving slowly especially at the beginning of our spiritual life and says, (Moving slowly at the beginning of our spiritual battle confirms that our spiritual death is about to come true. The conclusive and strong beginning is so important, but we should remember it to enable us to move forward.
