What does Joshua denote to? what is his mission? what about Rahab? what has she done? what is her rewarding?
God 's Commission to Joshua
(After the death of Moses, the servant of the Lord, it came to pass that the Lord spoke to Joshua the son of Nun, Moses’s assistant, saying: Moses My servant is dead. Now therefore, arise, go over this Jordan, you and all this people, to the land which I’m giving to them -the children of Israel.) (JOSHUA 1:1-2)
Hence, with the death of Moses, which denotes to, covenant of the law, has been ended, a new covenant, with Joshua; meaning God is the savior, has begun; which is the covenant of grace.
So, the servant may die but, the service should continue.
Also, God is honest in all of His promises; He promises us. He might delay according to us but, He surely comes at the right time.
(No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and of good courage.) (JOSHUA 1:5-6)
So, God invited Joshua to be the source of his power and the real helper to push him in his message that is goanna succeed as Moses succeeded too.
Also, no man can stand before Joshua does not mean that no one will resist him but, that the real resistor is the Devil.
And during the togetherness with God, the man can hide in Him, feeling no fear, realizing that the darkness hosts are infuriated against God not him.
(Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded to you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, that you shall meditate in it day and night.) (JOSHUA 1:7-8)
So, the servant or the true believer should feel that God is with him till, he puts his dependence and trust upon the Lord, who, is with him throughout all the times even the dangerous ones.
And is that the true believer should meditate in the law of God and His commandment; fearing only God and not to hurt His Parental feelings so, he can hide in Him.
Saint John Chrysostom says, the word of God is the real weapon to the servant who accepts it not only mentally, but through his life which witnesses it practically.
Really, the world nowadays is in a great need to spiritual leaders living the word of God before they talk about it by their sayings.
Finally, God loves the man to participate in the work with Him.
Rahab Hides the Spies
(Now Joshua the son of Nun sent out two men from Acacia Grove to spy secretly, saying, “Go, view the land, especially, Jericho.”) (JOSHUA 2:1)
Joshua denotes to Jesus, but what are the two spies denote to?
Caesarius of Arles says that the two spies denote to the two commandments of love; the love of God and the love of people.
(So, they went and came to the house of a harlot named Rahab and lodged there. Then the woman took the two men and hid them.) (JOSHUA 2:2,4)
(Now therefore, I beg you, swear to me by the Lord, that you will show kindness to my father’s house, and give me a true token, and spare my father, my mother, my brothers, my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.) (JOSHUA 2:12,13)
Whenever the people of God died in the wilderness, behold, Rahab the harlot raped the kingdom of God, not only so, but also the real Messiah came from her descendant!
So, if God did so to a harlot woman believed in Him, we should attend how to look to such kind of sinners who were converted to the real faith in God.
In contrary, there are some believers believing in God still in spiritual dryness.
As Rahab asked for the safety of her family, we also should go away from the isolationism through the membership of the church to complete the one flesh that Jesus is its head.
(You bind this line of scarlet cord in the window and unless you bring your father, your mother, your brothers, and all of your father’s household to your own home. So, it shall be that whoever goes outside the doors into the street, his blood shall be on his own head. And whoever is with you in the house, his blood shall be on our head.) (JOSHUA 2:18,19)
So, the two spies stipulated two conditions for her salvation with her family, the first one is the scarlet cord denoting to the blood of the Christ and the second one is the staying inside the home denoting to staying inside the church: the source of our salvation.
